If not a Nurse then who?
The Begining
Our founder Jessica is a registered nurse working in Toronto, Canada. She started her career in health care because of her love of helping others and her passion for science. Through her career she was able to see the most intimate moments of the lives of her patients. Through her work in nursing she was able to see life and death pass before her eyes. Some experiences more painful then others.
The Idea
In 2017 she started to study to become an Intensive Care Nurse. During this time, she had come across athletic clothing that was copper infused. They were being marketed as odour resistant and antibacterial. This discovery had developed a revelation. Copper infused scrubs for health care workers. Health care workers are constantly in contact with bacteria and bodily fluids putting ourselves and our families at risk of contacting a hospital acquired infection. An idea so simple and obvious but has never been done before.
The Decision
Jessica had a lot of fear caused by unanswered questions and uncertainty. She did a lot of research and decided to take business courses at the University of Toronto as part of the entrepreneurial certificate program which gave her the building blocks to help start her entrepreneurial journey.
The Dream
During her courses, she developed a dream. A dream where our health care system would experience a decrease in the amount of hospital acquired infections. A world where the fourth leading cause of death wasn’t so preventable and we wouldn’t have to spend billions of dollars to treat patients for hospital acquired infections.
The Vision
Copper Medical was going to save lives.
She saw it then and sees it now.
